(SOUTHINGTON, CT) - Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released a time-lapse video of the replacement of two Connecticut highway bridges. The $6 million project to replace the I-84 bridge over Marion Avenue in Southington, which was scheduled for completion in July 2014, was finished ahead of schedule over the weekend of June 28-29 using an engineering and construction process known as ABC -- Accelerated Bridge Construction -- in which the new bridges are built adjacent to the old ones and are then lifted into place when ready. "This project not only demonstrates the unprecedented investments we are making to improve and modernize our transportation infrastructure but also the steps we are taking to ensure these kinds of projects are completed ahead of schedule and with as little interrupt...

A federal transportation bill is heading to President Obama for his signature after a rare bipartisan move by Congress. It’s a huge bill that will hand out $305 billion across the nation, but what does that mean for Connecticut?
Thursday, January 29, 2015 -- Governor Dannel P. Malloy visited Connecticut Department of Transportation maintenance facilities in Old Saybrook, Norwich and Marlborough today to thank the crews for a job well done during the most recent severe winter weather that impacted the state, particularly in eastern Connecticut. Because the people of Connecticut heeded the warnings and stayed off the roads, injuries were kept to a minimum and cleanup was expedited.
Connecticut railroads handle a lot of stone for construction, railroad roadbed, highways, and various other projects. Much stays in the state, but there is quite a market for exported stone (especially to New York) as well. Providence & Worcester handles a large amount of stone, and the Branford Steam Railroad hauls stone exclusively.
Finally made it up to Connecticut & Rhode Island to do some railfanning with some friends. Up in CT and RI got some public railroad crossings of the Northeast Corridor including the northern most crossing, southernmost, and New London.. Railroads in this video filmed: Amtrak, Metro-North / C-Dot, Shore Line East, and the Providence & Worcester Railroad

"I think we wanted to raise the profile of transportation as a policy issue in Connecticut and also talk about some of the concerns and frustrations of the business community," says Peter Gioia, Vice President and Economist at the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. The Stamford Chamber of Commerce and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association presented a summit on CT transportation issues Thursday. It's the first meeting of its kind. "We have been concerned that the congestion on our highway is now gotten back to the point that it's really impacting business," says Stamford Chamber of Co...
